Mumbai:

Filmmaker Mrigdeep Singh Lamba says he is toying with the idea of touching on the COVID-19 situation in the third part of his hit franchise film ‘Fukrey’. Lamba said that like the previous two installments ‘Fukrey’ (2013) and ‘Fukrey Returns’ (2017), the third one will also be high on entertainment and will give a social message. Farhan Akhtar and Ritesh Sidhwani’s Excel Entertainment are the producers of the franchise.

The director said that the team is looking to talk about the current situation of the pandemic and the lockdown in ‘Fukrey 3’. This part will also send a strong message that people will give it away and it will be delivered in a funny way. It is not mentioned in the original story (about COVID-19). But we are thinking. We have discussed it. Lamba told PTI-language that we need to be careful in how we show it (Covid-1 situation) it should not be overwhelming.

He further added that if the team is unable to crack down on the idea revolving around the coronavirus situation for ‘Fukrey 3’, he is planning to make a full-fledged film on it. ‘We are toying with the idea of doing (something) in a humorous way on COVID-19 or the current situation. We will definitely do something about it. We’ll make something. We need to break the right idea,’ he said. He said that all his energy is focused on ‘Fukrey 3’.

“We started working on it before the lockdown and now we connect via phone. We’ve got a story and the writing is almost 80 percent complete. We are working on the screenplay, which is almost done. Once things start getting back to normal and we have the rules in place, we will decide how and when to take it forward. Before going on the floor, we will understand the ground reality. The production was earlier supposed to start by October-November, but nothing is certain now.

The primary cast of the film including Pulkit Samrat, Varun Sharma, Ali Fazal, Manjot Singh, Pankaj Tripathi and Richa Chadha are returning, he added, adding that it will also have new additions. When asked if Rajkummar Rao and Janhvi Kapoor’s ‘Roohi Afzana’ which he is producing with Dinesh Vijan will release on OTT, Lamba said that the film is not completed yet. The film was earlier scheduled to release on June 5.
